Saidika Organization is proud to participate in the African Union ECOSOCC and Cambridge University Press & Assessment Artificial Intelligence Capacity-Building Workshop, taking place in Nairobi, Kenya, on 9–10 July 2026. The workshop brings together selected civil society leaders from across Africa to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can strengthen organisational effectiveness, improve service delivery, and increase social impact.
Strengthening Community Impact Through AI
The workshop is one of the first major initiatives delivered through the partnership between the African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) and Cambridge University Press & Assessment. The programme aims to strengthen digital capacity, innovation, and responsible AI adoption among African civil society organisations.
Competition for participation was exceptionally high, with more than 1,200 organisations applying for only 50 available places. Saidika Organization is honoured to be among the selected organisations representing Kenya and contributing to conversations on the future of AI-powered social impact.
Over the two-day programme, participants are exploring practical applications of AI in fundraising, proposal development, project management, monitoring and evaluation, communications, reporting, organisational learning, and strategic planning. Sessions also address responsible AI use, ethics, data privacy, and governance to ensure technology is applied safely and effectively within the nonprofit sector.
Why This Matters to Saidika Organization
At Saidika Organization, innovation is central to our mission of empowering vulnerable communities through education, gender equality, economic empowerment, climate action, and community development.
Participation in this workshop represents an important step in strengthening our ability to leverage emerging technologies that improve programme delivery, enhance accountability, mobilise resources, and increase the long-term sustainability of our community initiatives.
The knowledge and practical skills gained will support the organisation in expanding the impact of programmes including:
Smile Girl Champion
DROPS Initiative
Imara na Biashara
Imarisha Uongozi
Widows Can Initiative
Community education and digital inclusion programmes
By integrating responsible AI into our operations, Saidika Organization seeks to serve communities more efficiently while maintaining transparency, ethical leadership, and people-centred innovation.
A Message from Dancan Onyango Okaka, Director, Saidika Organization
"Being selected for this highly competitive programme is both an honour and a responsibility. Artificial intelligence presents enormous opportunities for community organisations, but its greatest value lies in how responsibly we use it to improve people's lives. At Saidika Organization, we are committed to embracing innovation that strengthens our impact, improves accountability, and enables us to better serve vulnerable communities across Kenya and beyond."
— Dancan Onyango Okaka, Director, Saidika Organization
Reflections from the Workshop
Throughout the sessions, participants are engaging with practical AI tools while exchanging experiences with fellow civil society leaders from across Africa.
The workshop provides a collaborative environment where organisations can learn from one another, explore innovative approaches to common development challenges, and build partnerships that extend beyond the event itself.
For Saidika Organization, this experience reinforces the importance of continuous learning and adopting digital solutions that support inclusive, sustainable community development.
Looking Ahead
As Saidika Organization continues to grow and expand its programmes, the knowledge gained through the ECOSOCC and Cambridge AI Capacity-Building Workshop will help strengthen our organisational systems, improve programme quality, enhance donor engagement, and create new opportunities for innovation.
We remain committed to ensuring that technology serves communities—not the other way around—and that every innovation contributes to creating safer, healthier, and more resilient communities.
