At the COMESA Investment Forum 2026, I had the distinct honor of following and engaging in a high-level strategic session on health products and technologies led by Hon. Aden Duale, Cabinet Secretary for Health.
The session brought together key health sector leaders, including Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni (Public Health and Professional Standards) and Principal Secretary Ouma Oluga (Medical Services), to outline Kenya’s bold roadmap toward pharmaceutical self-sufficiency and expanded local manufacturing.
The discussions emphasized closing the 70% pharmaceutical supply gap, strengthening regulatory systems, unlocking investment capital, and positioning Kenya as a regional leader in health manufacturing within the East African Community, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) frameworks.
It was insightful to witness firsthand the alignment between policy leadership, regulatory reforms, and investor engagement — all geared toward achieving health security, industrial growth, and regional competitiveness.
As young leaders , these are the conversations that define the future of economic transformation and national resilience.
